Mulberry meadow
The meadow behind the garden in late spring, when everything flowers at once. A softly rounded crown of mulberry sinamay, gathered with hand-dyed flowers in pink, violet, apricot and white, fine netting caught among them like a cobweb in long grass, and a twist of sinamay curling up above it all.
Every flower is cut from silk, then dyed and shaped by hand. Each one is a little different, the way no two meadow flowers are alike. The sinamay is backed with a fused interlining, so the mulberry stays deep and even rather than sheer. 8 hours of work go into this hat, made in my studio in Bowral.
Wear it with: blush, ivory, sage green or soft grey. Worn on the right side, tilted forward over the right brow.
For spring racing, Oaks Day, the Melbourne Cup, weddings and garden parties. Secured with a comfortable headband.
